Abstract: 

Background: The development of a standard motion capture system is needed since the measurement of temporomandibular disorders is time-consuming and costly using laboratory tools.Objective: The current study aimed to investigate the mandibular kinematic variables using a Regular Mobile Phone and the motion analysis system.Material and Methods: In this quasi-laboratory and comparative study, ten healthy individuals participated, and three Mobile cameras, nine red markers, and Kinovea software were also used to investigate the mandibular kinematic variables. Nine light reflective markers were used to check the sensitivity, accuracy, and reliability of the proposed system. The motion was analyzed using seven motion analysis infrared cameras and Qualisys Track Manager (QTM) software. Two other raters analyzed the kinematic variables obtained from the Mobile to measure intra- and inter-rater reliability.Results: Pearson’s correlation coefficient was obtained at 0.98, 0.75, 0.98, and 0.96, showing a high correlation. The accuracy and reliability validation tests showed an average error and an accuracy of 0.156 mm and 95%, respectively, with a Mobile Phone. The Intra Class Correlation coefficient showed a high internal correlation in the mentioned confidence interval (0.98 and 0.81, and 0.96 and 0.97). The intraclass correlation coefficient method also showed 97% inter-raster reliability. Conclusion: Mobile Phones as a new system can evaluate the kinematic variables of mandibular disorders with appropriate accuracy and reliability.

Abstract: 

Background: The expansion of the use of audio and video media technology has faced society with many medical, cultural and economic challenges. In the meantime, excessive use of Mobile Phones can cause many problems. Objective: The aim of this study was to construct and validate a questionnaire on physical and psychological injuries of Mobile Phones. Method: The method of the present study was descriptive-correlational and confirmatory factor analysis. The statistical population of the study consisted of all citizens of Khorramabad with a diploma or higher in 1399, which was selected as a statistical sample by available sampling method of 200 people online and virtual. Results: The results showed that the factorized physical and psychological harm questionnaire of cell Phone with 42 questions and 10 components (fear of loss, vibration syndrome, duck syndrome, nomophobia, insomnia, hearing problem, eye syndrome, tunnel and neck syndrome SMS) and has good reliability, validity and flexibility in terms of psychometrics. Discussion and Conclusion: The questionnaire of factor analysis of physical and psychological injuries of Mobile Phones can be used to identify and study the physical and psychological injuries of Mobile Phones.

Dear Editor, We read with great interest an article by Nayyeri et al. "Assessment of RF radiation levels in the vicinity of60 GSM Mobile Phone base stations in Iran", published in the latest issue of Radiation Protection Dosimetry Journal. The authors of the article reported some interesting measurements of radiofrequency (RF) radiation levels from 60 GSM base stations. Although Nayyeri et al. have not studied the health effects of exposure to different levels of RF in people living near Mobile Phone base stations, they vigorously reported that these radiations are not detrimental: "The results were compared with the relevant guideline of International Commission on Non-Ionising Radiation Protection and that of Iran, confirming radiation exposure levels being satisfactorily below defined limits and non-detrimental". Over the past years, our laboratory has focused on studying the health effects of exposure of laboratory animals and human to some common sources of electromagnetic fields such as Mobile Phones and their base stations, laptop computers, and MRI.

Abstract: 

Background: A lot of investigations exist on the biological effects of radiofrequency and microwave radiation; however only a few studies have considered non-carcinogenic exposure to radiations specifically from Mobile Phones.Objectives: To introduce some subjective neurological symptoms in Mobile Phone users.Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional descriptive study conducted from March to August 2012; an eight-item questionnaire was administered to one thousand individuals. The questionnaire included the items concerning current status of Mobile Phone use, the participants'' demographic and occupational data and characteristics of their complaints. Data analysis was done using the Chi-square test and unpaired two-sided t-test in SPSS software version 19.Results: A total of 731 participants with mean age of 36.52±10.97 years accepted to contribute in the study. The mean duration of Mobile Phone use was 21.39±16.87 months, and the mean daily duration of use was 42.18±7.15 minutes. Two hundreds and thirteen participants (29.4%) had some complaints. Headache (9.4%), fatigue (6.4%), and scalp warmness (5.3%) were the most frequent complaints. The symptoms were more frequent among men. The number and percent of symptomatic patients increased with increasing daily using time, but not with change of overall duration of Mobile usage.Conclusions: Headache, fatigue, and scalp warmness were reported as the most frequent complaints among Mobile Phone users. The prevalence of symptoms was related to daily using time, but not to overall duration of Mobile usage.
